Sport Pilot Course

The Sport Pilot Certificate provides an accessible path into recreational aviation with a lower FAA flight-time requirement than the Private Pilot Certificate. Train in our efficient Alpha Trainer LSA while developing the knowledge, judgment, and flying skills needed to safely operate an airplane on your own.

For qualifying applicants, daytime Sport Pilot privileges may be exercised using a current and valid U.S. driver’s license instead of an FAA medical certificate. Sport pilots may carry one passenger and operate eligible aircraft for personal and recreational flying.

Our syllabus-driven program is divided into three stages, taking you from your first flight through solo operations, cross-country flying, and preparation for the FAA practical test. Students who later continue to the Private Pilot Certificate can build upon the knowledge and experience developed during this course, subject to the applicable Private Pilot requirements.

Applicants may begin flight training before meeting the age requirements for solo flight or certification. Before completing the program, the applicant must:

Be at least 16 years old to fly solo in an airplane.
Be at least 17 years old to receive the Sport Pilot Certificate.
Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.
Obtain an FAA Student Pilot Certificate before solo flight.
Hold either a qualifying current and valid U.S. driver’s license or an appropriate FAA medical certificate.
Complete the required ground training and receive instructor endorsements for the FAA knowledge and practical tests.

FAR 61.23

Using a driver’s license is not available to every applicant. A person generally cannot use a driver’s license in place of an FAA medical if their most recent FAA medical application was denied, their most recent medical certificate was suspended or revoked, or a Special Issuance authorization was withdrawn. Applicants must also have no known medical condition that would make them unable to operate safely.

FAA Minimum Requirements

For airplane single-engine land privileges, the FAA requires at least:

The 20-hour requirement is a regulatory minimum, not a guaranteed completion time. Students must demonstrate proficiency in all required knowledge and flight areas before receiving an instructor recommendation for the practical test.

As with all of our programs, we recommend training at least 3–6 sessions per week to maintain steady, efficient progress.

Our flexible scheduling allows you to customize your training around your availability and goals; however, extended breaks between lessons can significantly increase the total time and cost required to complete your program.

Simply put, the more often you fly, the quicker you'll obtain your Sport Pilot Certificate. Consistent training is the best way to save money.

The FAA requires a minimum of 20 total flight hours for the Sport Pilot Certificate, including at least 15 hours of flight instruction and 5 hours of solo flight. While some students may complete the course near the FAA minimum, most require additional time to develop the skill, confidence, and consistency needed to pass the FAA practical test.

Our Sport Pilot program combines flight training with structured ground instruction. Ground lessons cover flight planning, regulations, weather, aircraft systems, aeronautical knowledge, and decision-making skills that support each stage of training.

Private Pilot Course

For the client who wants to go beyond the limitations of the Sport Pilot Certificate, this is where your journey begins. The Private Pilot Certificate is your first major step into aviation, giving you the freedom to fly for personal travel, recreation, and shared experiences with friends and family.

FalKor Aviation Academy’s syllabus-driven program combines the flexibility of Part 61 training with the structure, standards, and accountability of a professional aviation academy. Students receive one-on-one flight and ground instruction while progressing through three clearly defined stages of training.

The course includes:

28 structured flight lessons
27 two-hour ground lessons
Three stage checks
Preflight and postflight briefing with every flight lesson
Online ground-school and syllabus integration
Online scheduling, lesson grading, and progress tracking

Each stage concludes with a formal stage check consisting of two hours of ground evaluation, a 1.5-hour flight evaluation, and a 0.5-hour preflight and postflight briefing.

Stage I — Pre-Solo Training

Develop a strong foundation in aircraft control, airport operations, takeoffs and landings, slow flight, stalls, ground-reference maneuvers, emergency procedures, radio communications, and aeronautical decision-making.

During this stage, you will learn to safely operate the aircraft independently and prepare for your first supervised solo flight.

Stage II — Cross-Country Flying

Expand your skills beyond the local training area through navigation, weather analysis, flight planning, night operations, basic instrument flying, radio communications, diversions, fuel management, and operations at towered airports.

This stage includes dual and solo cross-country training, night training, simulated instrument training, and the FAA-required solo cross-country flight.

Stage III — Checkride Preparation

Refine your flying skills, strengthen your aeronautical knowledge, and demonstrate consistent performance according to the FAA Airman Certification Standards.

This stage includes scenario-based training, mock oral evaluations, practical-test preparation, and a final stage check before receiving your instructor’s recommendation for the FAA practical test.

Applicants may begin training before meeting the age requirements for solo flight or certification. Before completing the course, the applicant must:

Be at least 16 years old to fly solo.
Be at least 17 years old to receive the Private Pilot Certificate.
Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.
Obtain an FAA Student Pilot Certificate before solo flight. (covered at FalKor during Lesson 1)
Hold at least a third-class FAA medical certificate before solo flight, unless otherwise eligible to operate under BasicMed. (covered at FalKor during Lesson 1)
Provide the required proof of U.S. citizenship or complete the TSA Flight Training Security Program process, when applicable.
Complete the required ground and flight training.
Pass the FAA Private Pilot knowledge test.
Receive an instructor endorsement for the FAA practical test.
Pass the FAA Practical Exam (oral and flight)

FAA 61.109

For a Private Pilot Certificate with an airplane single-engine land rating, the FAA requires at least:

The required night training includes a cross-country flight of more than 100 nautical miles and 10 takeoffs and landings to a full stop.
